Eastward Bound!

Hey everyone! This week was again amazing!

Highlights:
1. Donald is getting baptized in three weeks! I'm so excited for him,
he honestly is the most humble guy and so ready to be baptized. Sadly
I won't be around for it because....
2. I am getting transferred on Wednesday to a city called Jena, which
is right next to my old city, Erfurt. I'm going there to learn Chinese
from an Elder from China. I'm super excited, and honestly excited to
work super hard to learn Chinese.
3. I caught my favorite kids in the ward crying that I was leaving.
Broke my heart.
4. Accidentally talked to Jehova's Witnesses on the street for the first time.
5. Ate lots of good food!

I also learned some really great lessons about opening my heart to
people. It's something I've prayed for my entire mission, and I have
really found that if I open my heart to people that I really can make
a difference in their lives. I encourage you all to do the same.
I love you all! Thanks for your support!
Love,
Elder Openshaw

好, 就这么办。

This week was amazing! And I have time to email, so I can give you
actual details this week!
I guess one of the highlights was that we had many visitors come and
go from our apartment this week. Sadly that meant not the greatest
sleep, so I'm probably in the longest streak of being exhausted that
I've been on in my whole life.

Monday we went bowling with our district and had an amazing time. The
place was pretty typical German, lots of beer advertising and 70's
clothing.

Tuesday we went to our investigators apartment and tried to teach him
a little bit, but that consisted of us mostly just trying to read to
him in French and trying to understand the little German that he
speaks. Luckily he is one of those guys that I feel like doesn't need
to speak to have people connect with him. His name is Donald, and he
is such a stud.

Wednesday we had to get up at 4 to make it to Hamburg for a Mission
Tour. Elder Sabin came and gave some really awesome thoughts. I
actually had the chance to be interviewed by him, and it was one of
the greatest experiences of my life. He said some things that struck a
cord in me, and gave some great advice. One of my favorite things he
said was "pain is the price of love." I believe that is very true, and
we need to be willing to pay that price in order to feel love for
people. I am really grateful that I have the chance to meet and learn
to love so many people while out here on my mission. I've really felt
my heart open up to the people as I get to know them from week to
week.

Thursday we went to a village to give someone a blessing, and then ate
a ton of food. I've discovered that I can eat a lot when I need to
haha. And it feels like I need to every time someone invites us to
eat.

Friday we finally got our bikes up and running!! I'm so excited and I
feel like an actual missionary haha. Plus everything is so much closer
on a bike here. It's incredible how much faster it is to ride a bike
rather than a bus. We also ate in the University cafeteria and I found
someone who agreed to help teach me Chinese! (I'm learning chinese by
the way)

Saturday we played lots of soccer, and then it was pretty much a
boring day finding. Highlight of my day was drawing at night. I have
totally fallen in love with drawing.

Sunday we had church and an awesome lesson with Donald. And then after
we went to the University and I was taught some Chinese in a very
sketchy building. My tutor's name is Wang and in exchange for Chinese
I am teaching him English.

This really was a great week. I just want to leave you a quote from
President Jackson, "there is nobody more blessed than me." Although I
believe he was wrong, because I feel pretty blessed. Let me know if
you have any Chinese tricks!

I love you all!
